Malachi Jenkins, a former member of the Crips, and Roberto Smith, a former member of the Bloods, both got tired of running the streets and hustling. And when a mutual friend introduced them, despite their involvement with the gangs at the time, they hit it off and then shortly realized they both had enough of the life they were leading.

Jenkins, aka Chef Spanky, enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu, and after graduating, he started posting pictures of his dishes on Instagram.

20 Minute Recipes: Bananas Foster Dessert (For Adults)

Bananas Foster

If you're using a gas stove, be careful, because the rum may ignite; if it does, simply wait for any flame to subside, and continue.

• PREP: 10 MINS
  TOTAL TIME: 10 MINS
• SERVINGS:4

INGREDIENTS

• 1 pint vanilla ice cream
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1/2 cup dark-brown sugar
• 1/4 cup dark or gold rum
• 3 bananas, peeled, halved crosswise and then lengthwise

DIRECTIONS

1. STEP 1

   Set ice cream out to soften. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, heat butter, sugar, and rum over medium-low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until smooth and bubbly, 4 to 6 minutes.

2. STEP 2

   Add bananas, and cook, gently swirling skillet, until bananas are just warmed through, 1 to 2 minutes. Scoop ice cream into bowls, and top with bananas and caramel sauce. Serve immediately.
